Travel Tips

Best Time to Visit: The best times to visit Capri are during the spring (April to June) and fall (September to October) when the weather is pleasant, and the island is less crowded.

GETTING THERE: The cost-effective mode of transportation to Capri is by ferry. You can take a ferry from Naples, Sorrento, Amalfi, Salerno or Positano. You can book tickets on the spot most of the time, but if you are visiting in July or August, you may want to reserve in advance. There are several ferry companies to choose from, but not all ferries have a viewing deck. You can find ferry timings and ticket prices in the links section of the Budget & Costs page.

By Ferry: The most common way to reach Capri is by ferry from Naples or Sorrento. High-speed ferries take about 40 minutes, while slower ferries take around 80 minutes1. Ferries depart from the Molo Beverello which is close to the city center (highspeed ferries depart from here), and Calata di Massa for more affordable but slower ferries in Naples.

By Hydrofoil: Hydrofoils, or "Aliscafi," are faster than ferries and take about 30 minutes to reach Capri from Naples.

By Helicopter: For a quicker and more scenic option, you can take a helicopter from Naples. The flight takes about 20 minutes.

By Train and Ferry: If you're coming from Rome, you can take a train to Naples and then a ferry to Capri. The entire journey can take around 3-4 hours.

By Cruise Ship: Many cruise lines include Capri as a port of call, allowing you to visit the island as part of a Mediterranean cruise.

By Private Boat: You could take a private boat from Naples, Sorrento or Positano, which is faster than ferry and you have the boat to yourself. Naturally the cost will be high compared to the ferry.

Getting Around: The island is small enough to explore on foot or by using the local buses and funiculars. Renting a scooter or bicycle is also a popular option. Boats call at Marina Grande, from where the Capri funicular goes up to Capri town. From Anacapri, a chair lift takes passengers to Monte Solaro, the highest point on the island. There is also a bus service that connects the centre of Capri town with Marina Grande, Marina Piccola, Anacapri and other points.
