Six ways to reach the island — all of them by water or air, none by road.
The most cost-effective way to Capri is by ferry, from Naples, Sorrento, Amalfi, Salerno, or Positano. By Ferry: high-speed ferries take about 40 minutes from Naples, slower ferries about 80 minutes. By Hydrofoil: around 30 minutes from Naples. By Helicopter: about 20 minutes from Naples, for a quicker, more scenic option. By Train and Ferry: from Rome, train to Naples then ferry — around 3–4 hours total. By Cruise Ship: many Mediterranean cruises include Capri as a port of call. By Private Boat: faster than ferry, at a higher cost.

The island is small enough to explore on foot or by using the local buses and funiculars. Renting a scooter or bicycle is also a popular option. Boats call at Marina Grande, from where the Capri funicular goes up to Capri town.
Best time to visit: Spring (April–June) and fall (September–October)
A Mediterranean climate with four distinct seasons.
Winter (Dec–Feb): mild and rainy, 10°C to 14°C (50°F–57°F). Spring (Mar–May): gradually warming, 14°C to 19°C (57°F–67°F), with decreasing rainfall. Summer (Jun–Aug): hot and sunny, 27°C to 31°C (81°F–88°F), minimal rainfall. Autumn (Sep–Nov): cooling down, 20°C to 24°C (68°F–75°F), with increasing rainfall, especially in November.
Euros, cards, and what's changing for 2025.
The currency is the Euro; debit and credit cards are widely accepted, and ATMs are common, though it's wise to keep some cash on hand in case a machine is down. There are no specific travel advisories for Capri at the moment, but starting 2025 the EU is introducing EES & ETIAS, new entry requirements for travel to Europe — check the official ETIAS page for the latest updates before you go.
