Travel Tips
Spring and early autumn hit the sweet spot.
Spring (April–May) and early autumn (September–October) offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and lush landscapes. Summer (June–August) is popular but can be hot and crowded.
Ferry-first, with easy train access from Milan.
The best way to explore Lake Como is by ferry — the system connects all the major towns with stunning views from the water. Buses and trains also connect some towns. From Milan, trains run regularly to Como San Giovanni (for Como city) or Varenna-Esino (for Varenna and Bellagio via ferry).
Insider tip: Book accommodations and ferries in advance during peak season
A few small things that make a real difference.
Many towns have cobblestone streets and hilly paths, so comfortable walking shoes matter. Sun protection is worth packing even on cloudy days, since the sun reflects strongly off the lake. Keep some euros on hand for smaller villages, and dress modestly when visiting churches or religious sites (covering shoulders and knees).
